SLOW DAWN, Into The Machine Haus

Cardinal Fuzz, da sempre attenta all’underground canadese, presenta il progetto di Dan Druff (Holy Cobras), Chris Di Lauro e Jesse Winchester (Masss), Slow Dawn, alle prese con la terza uscita ufficiale, dopo le due auto-produzioni Songs From A Distant Earth (2017) ed Experimental Farm del 2020. Il trio, che in precedenza contava anche Caylie Runciman, Sean Cooke e Mat Oxley, partorisce una psichedelia oscura, discendente da Spacemen 3, Loop, Brian Jonestown Massacre, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, cugina di band europee come Gluts, Janitors, Sonic Jesus e Cult Of Dom Keller, solo per dirne alcune. Insomma, il consueto rigurgito di generi, dal noise al folk rock, tipico del ventunesimo secolo psichedelico: ciò che distingue gli Slow Dawn è un’inclinazione punk, sia nell’approccio alla qualità sonora, in lercissimo lo-fi sia nella velocità d’esecuzione, appena sopra i venticinque minuti, atipica per il genere. Per il resto, nulla da far sobbalzare dalla sedia, anche se le linee di sax che ogni tanto fanno capolino tra i fumi del goth-rock psichedelico di Into The Machine Haus (“See Through”, “Near Dark”) sono una piacevole sorpresa. Tra shoegaze nero, psichedelia e punk-rock si racchiude il sound degli Slow Dawn: it’s only (noise) rock’n’roll, but I like it.
