Non sapevo nulla di questo musicista originario di Gainesville (Florida). Scava e scava scopro che ha fatto uscire una marea di cassette con la sua Housecraft Records e che ha usato anche un po’ di nomi inventati: Digital Natives e Xiphiidae, tra i tanti. Bhsaaveaegi esce per la Elestial Sound (sorta di collettivo-cooperativa che spinge tutta una serie di sound e visual artist) e tra l’altro ha una storia singolare: s’era perso nei meandri di un pc rotto, ma fortunosamente è stato possibile recuperarlo. Aneddoti a parte, questo 12” ha i suoi motivi di interesse, dato che Astin dimostra di sapersi muovere bene in certi ambienti, senza mai strafare: i miraggi elettro-surf della drogata “Dust Avatar, Haze Of Jewels”, i crepitii molesti presenti in “The Winding Pathways Between The Legs Of Tables And Chairs”, lo sferragliante raga di “Hair Spun Gold (w/ Jonathan Coward)” o l’inquietante salmo della lunga “Saum / It Is From Here That The Deep…”, l’apice di un album che, sia ben chiaro, non propone nulla di nuovo (è certamente datato…), ma si lascia ascoltare. Mi sento lo stesso di consigliarlo, tanto per ribadire il concetto che non si finisce mai di scoprire gente in gamba.
