Johnny Marr - The Messenger

Quell’urgenza lì, di cui si ciancia tanto, in The Messenger c’è. Considerata la caratura del Signor Marr e la “storia” che rappresenta (con Morrissey e per conto suo), ci sarebbe già da non lamentarsi troppo. Hardcore fan o meno, si ascolta un disco di power pop/wave/Marr mood gustoso, dall’aerodinamica calibrata per andare spedito, tralasciando un po’ la tenuta. È anche (relativamente) provvisto di spigoli, così da non precipitare in baratri mainstream, quelli da suono levigato e impomatato per sbancare facile al botteghino. Particolare da non trascurare, poi, dati i trascorsi con gli Healers, riguarda le parti vocali: reggono bene, al di là del paragone che “nasce spontaneo”. Temi quasi opposti al canone Morrissey per quanto riguarda i testi, mentre il sapore british… non ci si ferma neanche a “parlarne”. Certo, fosse un disco arrivato dall’ennesima band residuato della nu wave anni Zero, The Messenger sarebbe stato accolto positivamente, ma senza troppo clamore o particolari attenzioni. Se non si cercano rinascite clamorose, allora ci si gode ogni pezzo.
